Supanova Pop Culture Expo
April 13 – April 15, Melbourne Showgrounds
Let your inner geek shine this weekend at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo and this year marks expo’s tenth anniversary, can you believe. Meet the creative team behind many famous pop culture icons in the world of movies, toys, cartoons, comic books, console games, books and TV. And for those who love to dress up, this event is a must as everyone attending this expo will be taking part in cosplay (costume role-play, for the uninitiated). Dress up as Alice in Wonderland, Obi-Wan Kenobi or Spiderman and take a short trip via train to the Showgrounds station. Simply wicked. Tickets range from $27.50 to $55.00.
Flo Rida
Saturday, April 14, 12pm, Eastland Shopping Centre
American hip-hop artist and rapper Flo Rida will be in Melbourne to promote his ‘Good Feeling’ EP – and he will perform on Saturday at the Eastland Shopping Centre. The best part is, it won’t cost you a cent to attend this gig. To get to there, simply hop on the train towards Belgrave or Lilydale, and get off at Ringwood station. The shopping centre is right opposite the road from the train station. The trip there may be slightly long, but it’s not often that you get to watch an international artist FOC.

Cinema Nights – Silent Movie Series
April 14 – May 5, 7pm-9pm, Piazza Italia

Good old black-and-white classics starring Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton will be showing every Saturday night at Piazza Italia, located at Lygon St in Carlton. Seating is provided, but in the event of a cool evening, do bring a blanket to snuggle under. And while you’re along the bustling dining strip, why not organise to have dinner or supper with friends before or after the show for a full night of entertainment?
Miss Hullabaloo’s Rooftop Market
Sunday, April 15, 12pm-6pm, Carlton
This market is a wonderful little hangout for vintage lovers. Bursting with quality vintage threads, cutesy accessories, chic bags and quirky items, it’s an interesting market to check out. Being a rooftop market, it is also a good place to chill and relax on a Sunday afternoon as you browse through the items on display, or taste some yummy cupcakes on sale.
Giant Theremin
Till Sunday, April 15, 8am-7pm, Les Erdi Plaza
Find out how it feels like to make music using your body before the exhibition closes this Sunday. The Giant Theremin is a supersized musical instrument controlled by movement instead of touch. In the shape of a pyramid, this amazing object will create music from a symphony of movement. All you have to do is step into the activation zone and start moving your limbs! It is a free, phenomenal experience for people of all ages, and is located in the plaza which is on the Yarra River.
