4 fitness gadgets to get you moving!

COLUMNIST Belinda Tan proves exercising doesn’t have to be a chore when you have awesome technology that would make even Inspector Gadget proud.

I have a confession I’m sure will make many people hate me: I love going to the gym.

I try to go five to six days a week and I literally feel a palpable excitement whenever it’s time for me to leave the day’s troubles behind and get exercising. People think I’m crazy. They say they have no time to go once a week, let alone five times. But come on! An hour is four per cent of your day. You should try your hardest to incorporate fitness into your life and make it as convenient as possible to get your daily exercise.

And so to help you embrace your inner exercise warrior, I’ve put together a list of awesome fitness gadgets. You’ll be transitioning from meat sweats to sweet abs in no time!

1. Dog Leash Dumbbells

Dog lovers are generally more fit. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why – dogs need lots and lots of exercise, and taking them on daily walks is a good workout. But here’s something that will really give you Michelle Obama arms, the dog leash dumbbell.

Not only will you be trying to keep up with an excited, playful dog, but these 1k dumbbells will ensure you earn that cheesecake you had for supper without even doing a single push up.

2. Convertible iPhone Case

Everyone has an iPhone. It’s a fact of life now, and hard to believe, but that’s actually a good thing. Tons of iPhone-friendly products are coming out every year with the intention of making us fitter and healthier. This Convertible iPhone Case is my favourite. It combines our unanimous love of the iPhone with convenience. All you have to do is attach the clip on the back, hook it onto an arm band and voila, you’re ready to go for a jog.

3. Sony Wireless W Series Walkman MP3 player

I have personally tried and tested this gadget and I am proud to say, this Sony Wireless MP3 player kicks mighty ass. Seriously. It hugs your head comfortably and almost comfortingly so you’ll never have unsecured earphones threatening to fall out of your ears and hit you in the face when you’re in the zone. The actual body of the player is located right by your ears, so if you want to change tracks or adjust the volume, you won’t have to fumble around in your pocket.

When not in use, just connect the magnetic ends and… it forms a pretty heart shape!

It’s also water-resistant and most importantly, comes in pink! Love how they cater to colour.

4. Fitness Apps

Refer to point number two about how iPhones are now practically an extension of the human body in first world countries, and you’ll understand how useful exercise apps can be. What you download will depend on your fitness regime.

You can pick anything from Yoga apps to Motivational Music Jukeboxes, but my favourite happens to be Lose it! This app tracks your fitness and basic calorie intake and even has a food diary so you can manage your journey to fitness mecca in the most personalised way.

But if you’re looking for a specific calorie-intake app try Meal Snap, which calculates the amount of calories you’re ingesting just by taking a picture of it with the camera on your phone. Amazing, huh?
