Symphony in a Day
Saturday 9 June, Melbourne Town Hall
To mark the end of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s five-day residency in Town Hall, amateur musicians will be joining the professionals on stage for a public performance at 8:30pm. Conducted by Benjamin Northey, the evening will enrich your lives with culture and a new sense of meaning. Ok, that last bit’s not a guarantee. If you’re looking to find some comfort to take you away from the stress of the exam period, then there’s plenty of calm to be found at this weekend’s Mind Body Soul Festival. Hundreds of exhibitors will be displaying products and services to improve your sense of well being. And if you’re wanting to try and find out what’s in your next exam paper, then maybe it’s worth paying a visit to the psychic reading room for some last minute tips. Daryl Braithwaite at The Espy
Sunday 10 June, The Esplanade Hotel, St Kilda
As one of those Australian musicians who just never seem to go away, Braithwaite has been playing to crowds around the country since the 1970s. If you’re looking to wile away the long weekend with some aged rocker singing about horses then this is the place to be. And do you know what makes it even better? It’s free. Yes, bar the tram fare to St Kilda you can enjoy this legendary reasonably successful rocker without spending a cent. A Right Royal Indulgence

Considering the fact Australians get an extra day off due to the Queen’s birthday, you may have thought there’d be some sort of grand celebration. You know, maybe a giant party in Fed Square? Or Melbourne’s equivalent of the Jubilee pageant down the Yarra? Despite my searching for events of that calibre, the best I could find was that restaurants in Fitzroy Street have made some menu alterations and are hosting a high tea event. So if you’re wanting to get into the royal spirit of things, I think that’s the best you’re going to get in the city. For more details click here.

Wonderfully Pretty Market
6pm-10pm, Monday 11 June, 29th Apartment, St Kilda
There’s a new, vintage-style, arts and fashion market in town and this time, it’s south of the Yarra. Wonderfully Pretty will be offering visitors the chance to buy everything from cutesy jewelry to dainty blouses.
