Ever wondered about the stories behind Trades Hall, RMIT’s Capitol Theatre, or Melbourne Town Hall?
Open House Melbourne gives you the opportunity to go behind the scenes of Melbourne’s most intriguing buildings. This weekend 100 buildings will be opening their doors, all for free. From underground substations, hospitals, sports arenas and police stables, to award winning residential and green buildings, law courts and theatres, there is a bit of Melbourne you will want to discover.
Head to the Info Hubs at Town Hall, Federation Square or University of Melbourne to get all the information you need to start your walkabout in the city of Melbourne. Open every last Saturday of the month, the Southside Handmade & Vintage Market celebrates its first birthday this weekend. Stocking vintage fashion pieces, one-of-a-kind accessories, homeware and more, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Whether you’re thinking of changing your look or just browsing for knick-knacks, you might just find what you are looking for there.
To sweeten the deal, you get drinks at a discounted price because the market is held at the St Kilda RSL (Returned and Services League).

Slow Food Melbourne Farmer’s Market
Saturday July 28, 8am-1pm – Abbotsford Convent
As students, we are used to popping by the supermarket or nearby market to grab our essentials – vegetables, bread, meat – then heading back to tackle the next tough assignment.
If you are looking for a change (since it’s the beginning of the semester), head to Abbotsford this Saturday to the Slow Food Melbourne Farmer’s Market. Every stallholder here grows their own food or knows of the harvest process. You can slow down, have a chat with the guy who personally grows your apples, and understand more about where your food comes from.
This market is not a weekly occurrence so do pop by and visit!
Entry to the market is a $2 donation, and you can stay as long as you like.

Melbourne Showgrounds Farmer’s Market
Sunday July 29, 9am-1pm – Melbourne Showgrounds, Flemington
Similar to the Slow Food Melbourne Farmer’s Market, the Melbourne Showgrounds Farmer’s Market is the only weekly farmer’s market in Melbourne. Every Sunday, farmers and producers from all around Victoria gather at the Melbourne Showgrounds, displaying their produce. By doing your shopping here you can be sure that your shopping is filled with the freshest produce, and the farmers will be getting a fair deal for all their hard work.

Father John Misty Live in Melbourne
Saturday July 28, 8.30pm – The Corner Hotel, Richmond
Soothing sounds are the order of the weekend with Father John Misty playing at the Corner Hotel. Ex-Fleet Foxes drummer Joshua Tillman has since adopted the monicker ‘Father John Misty’ and gone solo, bringing with him introspective, soulful sounds. He bares his soul this Saturday at the Corner Hotel, adding bits of humour to some brooding. Tickets are available from Ticketscout.
