IT’S a topic many of us shy away from. But it’s one that’s hard to avoid, especially when you’re living away from home. This September SEXtember, Meld Magazine, in partnership with Red Aware, wants to start a conversation about sex. Safe sex. For it, against it, don’t really care about it, let us know what you think.
For many international students, it’s uncomfortable for us to even broach the topic of sex. And that’s understandable. Many of us come from cultures where it’s just not acceptable to be doing it (before marriage at least), let alone talk about it. And then there are those of us who come from more open cultures, but still don’t quite know what to do, where to go to, or who to talk to in a foreign country.
So here at Meld we want to open a dialogue. Over the next month, we’ll be featuring content about the topic – from humorous tips to investigative pieces about what’s going on in the international student community to where you can go for help. The truth is, many of us are putting ourselves at risk everyday – simply because we don’t know enough about what to do. Or what not to do.
Then there are those of us who want nothing at all to do with sex (and our friends who are having it). And we’ll be hearing that side of the debate too. How do we keep our values intact when everyone around us has a different opinion?
The most important part of this campaign, though, is we want to hear from you. Whether you have a personal story to share or you want to contribute a story idea, we’re opening up the floor to you.
For September only, you won’t have to enter an email address when leaving comments on any of our articles.
And for those of you who want to send in your experiences or ask a question – but want to remain anonymous – we’ve set up an email account for you to send us stuff. Just head to www.gmail.com and fill in the following:
Username: sextember@meldmagazine.com.au
Password: meldsextember
…then send your email to letstalkaboutsex@meldmagazine.com.au
If you just want to send us emails the normal way, as always, we’ll be sure to respect your privacy.
We look forward to hearing from you – and keep watching this site over the next few days!
