HAVE fun learning how to play badminton, soccer, AFL and even Bollypop and hip-hop dance at the Melbourne Multicultural Sports Day 2012. Meet new people, make new friends, and stand to win a sports scholarship.
The ASEAN Games Australia 2012 has just ended but now there are more sports and games at the Melbourne Multicultural Sports Day (MMSD) 2012 for you to look forward to.
Organised by the Victorian Immigrant and Refugee Women’s Coalition (VIRWC) and the City of Melbourne, the event will be held on September 30, between 10am to 3pm, at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), Albert Park.
The MMSD is open to all high school and university students, and it’s free to participate.
There’ll be various sport clinics for you to join – badminton, basketball, bowls, footy, netball, soccer, volleyball and even Bollypop and hip-hop dance. So dress and hydrate accordingly.
The VIRWC wants the event to be a way to facilitate social interaction among Melbourne’s local and international students as well as mainstream and multicultural communities
“Many international students have expressed their interest in sports and recreation, yet they are often under-informed
and therefore excluded from these activities,” says executive director Melba Marginson.
If you exhibit sportsmanship and great passion during the clinics, you can walk away with one of two sport scholarships from Sports Without Borders.
Also, the Federal Minister for Sports, Kate Lundy, and the Poise Bollywood Dance Club will grace the event’s opening ceremony.
