ASEAN Games Australia 2012: Futsal

The ASEAN Games Australia 2012 futsal tournament was a gripping event. From September 22 to 25, at the Albert Park Synthetic Fields, a total of 26 futsal teams, comprising approximately 200 players, battled it out for the local community equivalent of the World Cup. But in the end, it was Indonesia’s That’s What She Said and Singapore’ DV8 in the finals.

The opposing players tried to outrun and hoodwink each other with quick feet and even quicker thinking, but That’s What She Said managed to dispose of their opponents, 2 goals to nil, to win the tournament.

The margin would have been much larger if not for DV8 goalkeeper, Nattapol Ripoorijanya, saving multiple attempts at his goal.

It marked a vast improvement from last year’s AGA where they lost in the quarterfinals. That’s What She Said player, Rizky Sati, revealed the team had been playing twice a week for the past year in order to achieve better team chemistry.

Team DV8 captain, Ben Chan was disappointed with the loss and attributed it to the lack of team practice.

“This will be my last tournament before I head back to Singapore for good, we are still thrilled to be able to make it to the finals,” the 24-year-old Monash graduate added.
