UniVoice 2012 Singing Competition

WATCH as university students from across Victoria show off their musical prowess at the UniVoice 2012 Singing Competition. Jamie-maree Shipton and Danielle Frazzetto have the details.

THE UniVoice Singing Competition is the largest singing competition in Victoria, bringing together talented university students to show off what they can do with a mic.

Run by student social enterprise UniSquare, the event aims to encourage singers from all over the state to come together and share their appreciation of music.

The competition has already progressed to the second stage, but there is still time to embrace the talent that’s been gathered through the audition process.

The first stage of auditions was open to all Victorian tertiary institutions and universities and had more than 180 student participants register. Forty singers were then voted into the second round.

Soon, the top 12  singers will be selected to perform in front of thousands at the finals on October 13 at St Kilda Town hall.  They’ll be singing before a panel of judges including Liz Tripodi, one of Australia’s leading vocal coaches and music educators based in Melbourne, and YouTube star Jason Chen, who has over 500,000 subscribers to his channel, MiniAchilles.

Although these singers will no doubt be looking for constructive feedback on their abilities, prizes of up to $1,000 will also be up for grabs.

With expectations rising as the finals draw closer, the event is sure to offer some hidden Victorian talent to audiences.
