On the last day of 2012, Federation Square will be abuzz with New Year’s Eve celebrations. Featuring fireworks, free live music and family-friendly celebrations, this is an event not to be missed.
This year’s party isn’t just about 2013. The end of 2012 also marks Federation Square’s 10th anniversary, and the Fed Square team has invited an eclectic variety of local performers to play free live music from 8.30pm.
Local cover band Chunky Jam will be performing chart-topping hits by a range of international artistes, from Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson to Kings of Leon. They’ll be accompanied by ARIA award-winning DJ Wasabi, who previously performed at the 2000 Olympics Opening Ceremony.
The Australian breakdancing crew Wickid Force Breakers, who regularly represent the nation in competitions and international concerts, will be performing as well.
The popular African dance-a-thon, led by King Marong and Afro Mandinko, will also be returning to wow the crowds at Fed Square.
As the venue is alcohol and glass-free, students and families will be able to party in safety. To top it off, Federation Square has been touted as Melbourne’s best spot for viewing midnight fireworks by the Yarra River.
