The British & Irish Lions Tour To Australia 2013

WHAT will happen if a pack of Lions take on a herd of Wallabies in their territory? Leon Saw previews the second test match of The British & Irish Lions Tour To Australia 2013.

Sporting competitions between Australia and Britain are usually enthralling contests. The intensity of the historic rivalry on the field, court or pitch is only matched by the fervour and passion of both countries’ fans.

While the Australia national cricket team are in the UK endeavouring to overcome their English counterparts in the storied Test cricket series The Ashes, Australia’s rugby union team, the Wallabies, will do battle with the British rugby union team, the British and Irish Lions, in the second of three test matches between the two sides at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne this coming Saturday, July 29.

The first test match at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane last weekend ended agonisingly for the Wallabies as they lost 21-23. The Australians will no doubt be out for revenge on Saturday, and they have history on their side. The previous time both teams met in Australia in 2001 for a three-test-match series, the Wallabies triumphed against the Lions two test matches to one after the visitors took the opening match.

In the lead-up to the titanic showdown in Melbourne, there’ll be a string of corresponding events at Federation Square.

This afternoon, ex Wallaby captain, Michael Lynagh, will be onsite to meet and greet Wallabies fans and lead them as they engage in friendly competitions such as dance-offs and sing-offs against Lions fans in Cardiff in the UK via Skype. There will also be facepainting, as well as a chance to win a double pass to this weekend’s test match.

Last but not least, Manic Street Preachers, the Welsh rock group responsible for the hit single, “If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next”, will be performing at Federation Square a few hours before kickoff.

Whether you’re a Lions, Wallabies or neutral fanatic, Saturday’s rugby union test match is one you shouldn’t miss.
