The largest ASEAN-based sporting event in Australia is back this year.

Organised under the ASEAN-Australia Agenda (AAA), the 2013 ASEAN Games will be held from September 27 to 29 in Albert Park, Melbourne.

Sporting events will include popular favourites such as table tennis, volleyball, badminton, basketball, netball and futsal.

In an effort to extend and expand their reach, the ASEAN Games this year will include squash, a new addition to the run-up.

The cash prize has also doubled from last year. Winners can look forward to $4000 of prizes in total.

The ASEAN games logo also has undergone a makeover this year to create a more defined design based on the three values that the Games stand for: Passion, People, and Performance.

Much like last year, 25 per cent of the proceeds will be donated to a chosen charitable organisation within the ASEAN nations, while the remainder will be rolled over to next year’s ASEAN Games Australia.

The Games are held this year with the goals of uniting the ASEAN community across Australia and increasing sports activity to encourage positive mental health among the community and to provide a professional platform for aspiring players.

In the future, the AAA looks to expand to the rest of Australia and collaborate with all other student bodies across the country.
