Freeplay Independent Games Festival
Until Sunday, September 29th; various locations in Melbourne

The Freeplay Independent Games Festival is an annual celebration of the art and culture of making independent games.

This year, the festival is hosting its fourth Annual Freeplay Awards, which will showcase the best of games design locally – including in-game sound, visuals, graphics, narratives and also technical innovations.

Over the weekend, the contesting games for the Freeplay Award will be available for the public to play at the Freeplay Arcade in the State Library of Victoria, where visitors will get to experience the latest in independent games, and also get the chance to vote for their favourite in the ‘people’s choice’ award.

For the avid gamer, a comprehensive programme of the festival is available on the official Freeplay website, and includes details of gaming sessions, mixers, talks, and workshops, as well as a two-day conference. However, for those who just want to have some fun, do head down to the State Library this weekend to experience what independent games are all about.
