WE’RE introducing a new category to Meld Magazine called Accommodation and Living, and with it comes a new team! Meet Faridah Wu and Jessica-Anne Lyons and check out their rooms for some space-spiration.

Hello! My name is Fari and I’m one of Meld Magazine’s reporters. I’m also a student at University of Melbourne, as well as a DJ with the community radio station SYN Radio.
Who do you live with?
My house mate, who is also my classmate. We live in a rental apartment near the city.
What inspired you to decorate your room this way?
I love how the house already had white walls and white furniture. I’m a big fan of the clean, monochromatic look, with a couple of quirky items to give it a personal touch. I have to admit though, I’m usually a lot messier than this! I generally have random things all over my room.

What is the coolest / most significant thing in your room?
I would say it’s the gold Bugs Bunny Oscar statuette and a movie clapper board on my table. I got them when I was in Gold Coast, and I had a lot of good memories there. It’s actually a birthday gift for my brother, and I’ll give it to him when I see him. It’s meant to be a surprise for him so I hope he doesn’t see this!

Where do you like to shop?
Daiso has loads of quirky inexpensive things, I can spend ages looking at everything! Other than that, I don’t really have a specific place to shop. If there are cool home accessories, I’ll be there to check it out.
How do you make your space feel like home?
I use scarves or clutches as part of decorations. I’ll just wrap a scarf somewhere or keep some necklaces on a table. Another thing I love are candles. Having a candle burning in my room gives me a comforting feeling, and I love sweet scents like vanilla. I don’t have any candles at the moment, but my favourite ones are from Bath and Body Works. Melbourne seriously needs a Bath and Body Works store soon!

Hi there! My name is Jess and I’m one of Meld Magazine’s Production Editors and Accommodation and Living writers. I also run my own fashion and beauty website Taken By Surprise and sell handmade floral headpieces through my Etsy store, CrownedByFlowers.
Who do you live with?
I live at home with my family in a beachside suburb.
What inspired you to decorate your room in this way?
I love bright colours and anything floral, so I display most of the flower crowns that I make in my room to brighten up the place. I also treat my walls like a real life Tumblr or Pinterest – if I like a picture in a magazine, I tend to tear it out and pop it straight onto my walls!

What is the coolest / most significant thing in your room?
It would be the sheer number of flowers in my room! My space is a bit like an indoor garden, featuring my headpieces and other random flowers strewn around the place! I also love the floral 21 that hangs next to my bed – I made it as a decoration for my 21st birthday party.

Where do you like to shop?
I adore Typo and Urban Outfitters for quirky homeware and decorations. I also visit a lot of Salvation Army stores to pick up unusual and unique vintage finds.
How do you make your space feel like home?
I love printing out photos of funny moments with my friends and blu-tacking them around my mirror – that way even if I don’t get to visit them often, I still get to see them everyday when I’m getting ready!
