CISA Excellence Awards 2014 winners on drive, inspiration, and success

HOW does one lead a successful student group? What motivates CISA’s International Student Of the Year? We reveal the answers to these questions and more in our exclusive interview with this year’s CISA Excellence Awards winners. Meld multimedia and news editors Julian Tay and Diane Leow report.

Over 150 student leaders and industry stakeholders gathered in Adelaide for the annual Council of International Students Australia (CISA) National Conference last week. The event aims to bring student leaders together to discuss pertinent issues in the international education industry.

It also celebrates the contributions of the many student leaders around Australia who work tirelessly to bring students together, creating a sense of home away from home.

Meld spoke exclusively to International Student Association of the Year FilOz UQ’s president Glen Andrew De Vera, who shed some light on his leadership style and ways to create a sense of belonging for every single member in his club.

We also spoke with Undergraduate of the Year Carys Xi-Wen Chan from Australian National University, Most Inspiring Student of the Year Erlyn Rachelle Macarayan from the University of Queensland, and Most Active Student Club 2014’s coordinator Peter Hichaaba, representing The Couch in Melbourne.
