The new Study Melbourne Student Centre was officially launched last Thursday at 599 Little Bourke Street, a short walk away from Southern Cross Station.

A Victorian Government initiative, the centre will give international students access to a range of support and information services.

Minister for Employment and Trade Louise Asher said the centre provided a ‘one-stop-shop’ for international students living and studying in Melbourne.

“The Study Melbourne Student Centre will play a central role in the Napthine Government’s efforts to ensure international students have a positive, rewarding and enjoyable experience in our state,” Ms Asher said.

International students have access to information on Victorian Government programs such as the Study Melbourne Internship Program.

Students will also be able to find out more about the GLoBALL program that aims to help students understand Aussie Rules Football (AFL), as well as obtain information on the Public Transport Discount Scheme for international students.

Ms Asher also announced the winners of the Study Melbourne Student Centre photography competition, which invited international students to submit a photo that captured their time living and studying in Victoria.

Mr Diego Barragan, who is studying an English language course, was the winner of the metropolitan photo category, while Mr Long Hei Yu, a Monash University Foundation Year student was the winner of the regional photo category.

The centre establishes a new location for what was known as the International Student Care Service, which provided case work support to over 900 students and responded to more than 2,000 general enquiries.

Staff members are equipped to assist international students with information and prevention advice to students across health, legal support, accommodation, financial management and safety.

Students can drop in to the centre without an appointment, though it is encouraged to call ahead to ensure a staff member is available.

The new Study Melbourne Student Centre is located at 599 Little Bourke Street, a short walk away from Southern Cross Station. It is open every Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm.

If you require emergency assistance, do call their 24-hour hotline at 1800 056 449 (free call from landline phones).
