INTERNATIONAL students in New South Wales have been expelled and face suspension after using illegal online essay writing service, MyMaster. Cally Sheng has more.
Two university students have been expelled while a further 70 await possible suspension and other severe penalties after being caught cheating using the online essay writing service MyMaster.com, according to a recent Fairfax Media report.
In order to preserve academic integrity, an investigation by New South Wales’ top universities took place following a story from several months ago which had exposed MyMaster.com for allegedly helping up to 1,000 students across 16 universities in NSW cheat in their assignments and online tests.
Although the universities affected by MyMaster could not be reached for comment by Meld, Sydney Morning Herald confirmed The University of Newcastle was the only education provider to have finalised its internal investigation and that it had indeed expelled two students, suspended eight students, and failed 24 students.
The University of NSW issued 19 students with notices of breaching academic misconduct protocol, after being identified with their purchased assignments through the MyMaster service. These students could face a maximum of 18 months’ suspension.
Meanwhile, Macquarie University and The University of Technology Sydney are said to still be carrying out their internal investigation with 43 and 11 current and former international students asked to attend hearings regarding the MyMaster scandal, respectively.
