Get involved with the sights and sounds of Southeast Asia at Fiesta Malaysia 2015! The popular festival returns once again to Federation Square this year after a terrific turnout in 2014. This year’s theme will focus on celebrating diversity, with a familiar ‘open house’ style that mimics the core themes of Malaysian festivals.
Expect loud music, amazing food and noisy crowds at the fiesta’s family-friendly environment that welcomes all to celebrate Malaysia’s multi-racial society.
Starting at 11.00am on May 9, this free event will have plenty to offer. There will be food stores churning out the best of Malaysia fare as well as an amazing lineup of music and dance performances performed live on stage throughout the busy day.
Jam out with popular Malaysian YouTuber Elizabeth Tan, who has been invited to perform exclusively at Fiesta Malaysia 2015. The up-and-coming young star first stepped into the spotlight when she posted her original rendition of the Malaysian rap song ‘Havoc’ on YouTube. She is now looking forward to rocking out with her fans in Melbourne.
Feeling hungry after all the excitement? Head down to the food stalls for some great Malaysian cuisine, with multiple well-known vendors and restaurants setting up shops around the area.
The warmth of Malaysian hospitality comes from great food, so enjoy many of the cherished Malaysian delights with Little Ipoh, Nasi Lemak House, Mamak and Sambal Kampung, or try out the famous Malaysian favorite satay skewers at Sate Klab Melbourne. Those Girls Iced Tea, Harajuku Crepes, Zero Lam and many other food stalls will also be available throughout the day.
Whether you’re feeling tired or relaxed after all that, don’t forget to check out the various cultural exhibitions set up across Federation Square. Have a go at some traditional Malaysian games such as congkak and mahjong at the festival’s game booths, or experience the harmonic gathering of Malaysians at the ‘House of Cultures’ booth. What’s more, you can also try on some traditional clothing and learn more about the unique traditions of Malaysia’s three main races.
There’s plenty more to do during this busy festival, so come along with friends and family and join the grand celebration of Malaysia’s cultural diversity.
