Indonesian Street Festival – Kartini Day
Sunday, April 19 (10am-4pm); Queen Victoria Market

This Sunday, immerse yourself in the culture, taste, sights and sounds of Indonesia. The Indonesian Street Festival is an annual event for the Indonesian community to share their rich culture and heritage.

In addition to tucking into some of the best in Indonesian cuisine at the festival, you’ll also get a chance to catch traditional dance performances of the Indonesian archipelago from Sumatra to the Eastern sea of Indonesia.

If you’re not content to be a mere spectator, you can take part in competitions, music and language workshops – or even better, come dressed in traditional Indonesian batik!

Activities aside, the festival also celebrates an important day in Indonesian tradition called Kartini Day. Similar to Mother’s Day or Women’s Day, Kartini Day honours the role women play in Indonesian society.

For more information about the Indonesian Street Festival, check out the City of Melbourne’s What’s On page as well as the festival organiser’s website.

ANZACS On The Wall
Sunday April 19 (2.30pm-3.45pm); Auditorium, Shrine of Remembrance (Birdwood Avenue, Melbourne)

anzac

In the lead up to Anzac Day on April 25, a free event is being held at the Shrine of Remembrance to commemorate the many young Australians who served in the First World War.

Anzac Day is one of Australia’s most important national occasions, and marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

Written by the young serviceman Danny Clancy when he journeyed through Gallipoli 100 years ago during World War One, ANZAC on the Wall will be a special performance presented by singers, songwriters and entertainers Jim Brown and Vince Brophy, as they take you on the journey of the ANZAC’s through songs, poems and stories.

The event will provide a meaningful opportunity for those interested in better understanding an important piece of Australian war history.

This event is free, but a gold coin donation is welcomed. For more information, or to book, visit the Shrine of Remembrance website
