CALLING all writers, poets and graphic novelists! The Lord Mayor’s Creative Writing Awards invites emerging writers to submit their creative work for a chance to win big money and earn recognition! Daniel Driscoll has more.

The Lord Mayor’s Creative Writing Awards 2015 is now open to any and all emerging creative writers. Students who enter their submissions have the chance to win up to $6,000 and gain recognition for their writing.
Submissions can be made across five categories: short stories, poetry, novellas, graphic short stories and narrative non-fiction.
One winner from each category will receive $1,000. A further $5,000 will be awarded to just one of the five major category winners as part of The Lord Mayor’s Award.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle will oversee the judging process for the Awards’ major winner and states that he is looking for “an assured piece of work”.
“[It has to be] something that is complete of itself; not something which looks like it needs more polish or hasn’t quite hit the mark.
Submissions for the Lord Mayor’s Creative Writing Awards will close on August 31.
Entries can be submitted via an online form, except for graphic short stories which need to be submitted in hard copy form and posted or handed in to Melbourne Library staff with a printed copy of the form found on the site.
Entrants must be emerging writers and must not have had any books published. Exception is made if the work was self-published.

Good blog, but I noticed you haven’t written up anything to do with the ticket inspectors and ticket (MYKI fines) yet. Students need to know their rights when dealing with ticket inspectors. Some students feel really scared as back home in their country they can be really strict.
Also in the past few months there have been a few times that assaults have happened to students.
We at RMIT Newintstudents (and CISA too) get asked a lot about this.
