How Far We’ve Come: Photography competition hosted by Study Melbourne

GOT a good eye for photography? Spend too much time taking photos for your Instagram account? Enter Study Melbourne’s “How Far We’ve Come” competition for a chance to get your photos displayed in an exhibition!

International students with a keen eye for photography will be pleased to know that their photos may be included in an exhibition come August.

By entering Study Melbourne’s “How Far We’ve Come” photography competition, students can go into the running to have their work proudly showcased at the Ballarat International Foto Biennale, a month-long festival celebrating photography.

The exhibition itself plans to feature 24 photographs (four photos across six cateogries below) with the definitive winner in each category selected by a judging panel.

The definitive winners of each category will receive an additional prize consisting of a one-day trip for two courtesy of Bunyip Tours which winners can use to participate in the Wilsons Promontory tour, Great Ocean Road tour or Phillip Island tour. The remaining three runner ups in each category meanwhile will receive $100 gift cards that can used for a various stories around Melbourne and Victoria.

Students don’t need to be professional photographers in training as the use of smartphones is encouraged.

Students can also choose to enter their best photos across multiple categories which include:

International Students of Victoria

Taking a similar approach to Humans of New York, this category is for portrait or group based images of international students studying throughout Victoria. Submissions in this category must have written consent from the students photographed as well as a 50 word summary explaining why they were selected for your photo.

Culture of Victoria

Victoria, especially its capital Melbourne, is known for its vibrant culture. Whether that’s captured through its broad range of food choices, art, festivals or galleries and exhibitions, submissions in this category will need to reflect Victorian culture at its finest.

Beauty of Melbourne

There’s so much to see in Melbourne from its hidden laneways, its cafes and restaurants to the natural scenery and built environments that help make Melbourne a comfortable city to live in. Submissions in this category ought to capture the beauty of this wonderful city.

Beauty of Victoria

As great as the city of Melbourne is however the natural and rural surrounds of regional Victoria can be quite awe-inspiring too. If you’re studying in a regional institute and are familiar with areas of grandeur and beauty or know of a few places that are perfect for a weekend getaway, this category might be for you.

Instagram

A free for all area for those of you who might not have the best photographic equipment. Those who wish to submit photos via Instagram can do so by using the hashtag #studymelbourne.

People’s Choice

This category will also be used to select the best photos as voted by international students via the Study Melbourne Facebook webpage.
