THIS weekend is all about film, food, and the open air. Watch cult classics in a silent cinema, enjoy street food right al fresco, and bask in the glorious art of Star Wars. Dea Putra lets you in on the highlights for this weekend.

Summer is the perfect time for outdoor cinemas, so head down to QV for an interesting, silent cinema experience, where attendees will be provided with headphones and audio kits for the film.

The program will screen a mixture of blockbusters as well as cult classics. This weekend, immerse yourself in the magical wonderland of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971), or watch the hills come alive in The Sound of Music.

The program also provides a diverse range of film genres, so you can also enjoy titles such as modern classics like The Matrix, newer films like Paper Towns, or foreign titles like Amélie, as well as Christmas specials, namely Elf and Miracle of 34th Street.

The Art of Star Wars and Superheroes

As the days quickly draw closer towards the highly anticipated release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, celebrate all things Star Wars by visiting the largest art exhibition of the franchise in Australia.

Curated over the course of two years, you can revel in 150 pieces of art, chronicling the entire saga of Star Wars. Fan favourite characters, such as Yoda, Darth Vader, and Luke Skywalker are immortalised by some of the best artists and illustrators on canvas or paper, along with breathtaking concept arts and recreations of memorable scenes.

If that alone doesn’t entice you, the exhibition also features a collection of artworks portraying famous DC and Marvel superheroes, featuring the likes of Batman, Superman, and more.

Gingerbread Village by Epicure

It wouldn’t be Christmas without gingerbread houses but EPICURE’s executive pastry chef Deniz Karaca has taken it up a notch and created a whole village using gingerbread.

The village also features replicas of Melbourne’s landmarks, namely Luna Park, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), and the Melbourne F1 Grand Prix.

This is the fifth year in which EPICURE has decorated Melbourne Town Hall with gingerbread delights, and all their proceeds for this event will go to the Make-A-Wish Australia foundation.

Food Truck Park – Chadstone

This summer, feast meets fashion at the Chadstone Shopping Centre as the Food Truck Park brings you some of the best street delicacies in Melbourne.

Replenish your energy in between your Christmas shopping spree, and dig into delights from over 20 food trucks on rotation to choose from, including Sliders on Tyres, Sizzlin Schnitzel, and Señor Churro.

So grab a burger, a cold beverage, sit back, and enjoy the summer.
