The Weekender: January 22 – 24

IT’S a food and drink kind of weekend! Head to Prahran for a Sausage Fest, visit South Wharf for a Pop-Up Craft Beer Garden, stop by in Richmond for its Lunar New Year celebration or trek to Yarra Valley for the inaugural Victorian Cider & Pork Festival.

It’s not as weird as it sounds! This Friday arvo, Prahran Market will be hosting the cheekily titled Sausage Fest where visitors can sample some of the best local sausages.

Prahran Market’s butchers and poulterers will be competing against one another in the second annual Sausage Fest, grilling their best snags on the barbie. Last year’s Sausage Fest brought snags in all shapes and sizes, with sausages coming in a range of flavours from duck and orange to lamb and rosemary — who knows what culinary creations these sausage experts will make this year?

This event is free to the public.

Hosted by Munich Brauhaus, their Munich Pop-Up Craft Beer Garden invites visitors to eat and drink their way through Germany.

Try out their new range of craft beer which the eatery maintains will pair perfectly with their unique Bavarian burgers and haus-made dogs. For the vegans and vegetarians, you can also join in on the fun and create your own salad too!

This week, Munich Pop-Up Craft Beer Garden will be having their Hop Dock Wheat Beer for all to sample (arguably the establishment’s signature beer, according to them!).

Plenty of rides and games as well as shops selling various accessories and trinkets will also be on site. And don’t forget to drink copious amounts of sugar cane drink!

If you’re keen to make the trip away from Melbourne this weekend, Victorian Cider & Pork Festival might just be the perfect retreat for you this weekend! In its first year running, the event promises food and drink connoisseurs a great time in Yarra Valley.

The festival will be serving up the best of both worlds. For cider, expect names like Yarra Valley Cider, Napoleon, Hills Cider, Granite Belt Cider Company, Colonial and more.

As for pork, you’ll find variations of the pig like bacon, crackling, pulled pork and pork belly from food trucks and pork producers such as Pig on the Spit Victoria, Fancy Hank’s BBQ Joint, Australasian Barbecue Alliance, Pulled Kitchen, Seven Fires BBQ and more.
