CELEBRATING a decade of Indonesian talent, Soundsekerta 2016 continues its mission to bring entertainment to Indonesians in Melbourne with its upcoming concert. Stevi Lee has more.
It all started in 2007, when Monash University’s PPIA (Perhimpunan Pelajar Indonesia Australia) or the Indonesian Students Association invited Indonesian comedians as guests for a comedy talk show called ‘Soundsekerta Feat Empat Mata’. With more than 700 tickets sold for its inaugural event at The National Theatre, the show found success and has since evolved over the years.
Now an annual event, Soundsekerta’s tenth anniversary this year is not to be missed, celebrating Indonesian music and talent all in the arts capital of Australia.
Soundsekerta 2016: A Decade to Remember will be taking place at Melbourne Town Hall on September 11, and has enlisted a lineup which includes, renowned Indonesian bands GAC and Kahitna as well as an orchestral performance by a local orchestra conducted by Randy Enos.
GAC, or Gabriel, Abigail and Cantika, is an Indonesian trio known for their cover of Justin Timberlake’s Mirrors which was featured at the Grammy Awards in 2014.
