Thai Songkran New Year Festival
Saturday, April 1 (9.00am – 3.00pm) – Sunday, April 2 (9.00am – 4.00pm) | Queen Victoria Market (Corner Elizabeth and Victoria St, Melbourne)
Celebrating the new year once is never enough. This weekend, you can do it all over again at the Thai Songkran New Year Festival, happening at Queen Victoria Market.
Tickle your taste buds with authentic Thai food as the festival will feature 15 popular Thai restaurants from all around Melbourne as well as other delectables from Thailand’s Southeast Asian neighbours.
Additionally, attendees will also be treated to cultural performances, cooking shows, Muay Thai demonstrations, a traditional fashion show, and so much more!
Do note however that the festival’s program will differ on each day:
- Saturday, April 1: Food stalls only
- Sunday, April 2: Opening ceremony, cultural programs and food stalls!
Although entry is free, bring some cash along because you wouldn’t want to miss out on that delicious pad thai!

2017 Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show
Wednesday, March 29 – Sunday, April 2 (Various Times) | Royal Exhibition Building (9 Nicholson St, Carlton)
Smell the bursting blooms and freshly cut grass filling the air? That’s probably the 2017 Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show you’re sensing!
Hosted at the majestic Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens, this five-day festival features the best landscape and floral talent that Australia has to offer. In this horticultural event, you can expect to get hands on with Floral Design Workshops, meet key designers and industry experts, and peruse the specialist retail products and plants on offer.
Do note that the show opens between 9.00am – 5.00pm except for Friday, March 31, where the event will end at 9.30pm for a one-night only Gardens by Twilight event.
Concession tickets go for $25.90, adult tickets for $29.90, and adult groups (10+) go for $24 per person.

Alun-Alun 2017
Sunday, April 2 (10.00am – 5.00pm) | Consulate General of The Republic of Indonesia (72 Queens Rd, Melbourne)
Bridge the gap between Indonesia and Melbourne by attending Alun-Alun 2017!
Organised by the Victorian Indonesian Society, Alun-Alun will feature Indonesian talents across the board from music, cooking, art and more. Highlights of this big community event include tasting various cuisines from Indonesia, joining in interactive games, listening to gifted vocalists in singing competitions, watching a traditional fashion showcase, and so much more!
Get to know Indonesia and its diverse cultures inside out at this one-day special event!
Entry to the festival is free though do be prepared to bring cash if you want to buy a snack or two!

Cheese and Wine Food Truck Festival
March 31 – April 2 (Various times) | The Food Truck Park (518 High St, Preston)
Ever wonder what the perfect wine to pair with that beautiful Comte might be? Pair that signature cheese dish you love with some fine wine at Preston’s Cheese and Wine Food Truck Festival this weekend!
In this three-day gourmet foodie event, visitors can check out more than 15 of Melbourne’s cheesiest food trucks and sample some of Australia’s finest wine.
Wine tastings will be held for a limited time only: Friday, March 31 at 6.00pm – 8.00pm and Saturday & Sunday at 3.00pm – 5.00pm.
Do note that the festival runs at various times:
- Friday, March 31: 5.00pm – 10.00pm
- Saturday, April 1: 12.00pm – 10.00pm
- Sunday, April 2: 12.00pm – 9.00pm
Although entry is free (and dog-friendly!), bring some cash in case you want to buy that rare Pinot Gris!
