An annual affair by Open House, a global architectural organisation dedicated to empowering citizens to participate in urban society by seeing the zany and eclectic buildings in their cities, this year’s Open House Melbourne invites visitors to go behind-the-scenes and explore iconic Melbourne buildings!
What can you expect to check out? See and hear the stories behind some of Melbourne’s most renowned architectural structures like Federation Square, The Supreme Court of Victoria, Parliament House as well as smaller, niche buildings, such as Hassell and Substation J. Many buildings are walk in and walk out as you please but some do require bookings.
So grab your camera and your best walking shoes and see the city in a different way this weekend!

Christmas in July at Barkly Square

Because Australia’s in the Southern Hemisphere, you’re not likely to experience a white and snowy Christmas with snowball fights and warm fires any time soon.
But fear not! Barkly Square in Brunswick will be hosting a ‘Christmas in July’ event on its grounds. There will be mulled wine to enjoy for those over the age of 18, a petting zoo for all ages and even a gingerbread making station!
So if you want to be on the nice list and you’re in need of some Christmas spirit, head over to Brunswick this weekend. There’s no guarantee you’ll see Rudolph though.

The St Kilda Winter Garden Ice Rink has been a mainstay on the foreshore (next to the Palais Theatre) for the past month.
With a bar, events and food alongside the ice rink, people can embrace the cold with good drinks, warm food and awesome company. As for the rink itself, you don’t need to be the next Yuna Kim to grace the skates — anyone can hire them for $24 for a 45 minute session. With the pop-up ice rink set to close this weekend, now is the perfect opportunity to grab some ice skates and flop your way majestically before winding down with some beverages.

Entering its tenth year, the Gertrude Street Projection Festival is an arts festival where buildings, laneways and natural parts of the street will be illuminated in projections made by local artists.
Immerse yourself in the bright lights and colourful projections that go all along one of Fitzroy’s most happening streets. Enjoy all of the lights and dip into one of your favourite Fitzroy dives for a drink or two as well!
The Gertrude Street Projection Festival will end on July 30 and runs from 6.00pm through to midnight.
