NSW Police Force offer international students unique insight into world of law enforcement

More than 20 international student ambassadors have been provided with a unique opportunity to gain insight into the world of law enforcement and policing.

In a bid to strengthen relationships between local police and international student communities, StudyNSW has funded the ambassadorship program to give students a chance to experience first-hand the training and work that NSW Police Force does.

The program spanned two days and involved various hands-on activities which included a police negotiation scenario and a session with the Dog Unit.

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller APM, said the program would give international students “a greater confidence in law enforcement”.

In addition to the two-day program, StudyNSW in collaboration with the Council of International Students Australia (CISA) and Wollongong Police will launch an online video titled ‘Stay Safe in our State – advice for international students’ aimed at helping the international student community stay safe and preventing crime from happening to them. The video will be subtitled in nine different languages that will help educate both current and newly arrived students on topics such as dealing with police and maintaining their personal safety.

“We strongly support international education and we’re committed to making sure students have a positive and safe experience while studying here,” Minister for Trade and Industry Niall Blair said.
