Jason is Meld’s reigning Editor. He’s always watching or reading something, cause nothing makes him happier than a good story!
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself (name, major/career, a bit more about what you do at meld, etc.)
I’m a writer, a photographer, and a lover for stories! Currently I’m the Editor of Meld Magazine, a part of the Meld community. I hope one day to become a photojournalist/photographer storyteller
Q: Why did you decide to join Meld community?
When I joined Meld 2 years ago I wanted to improve my writing skills, and Meld provided me the opportunity to learn. But I’ve stayed so far because I want to keep supporting international students.
Q: What support would you like to see for international students? Is there enough being done right now?
I think that International students are struggling, and I would love to see more support for us. The Universities and the government has tried to give as much support as they can, but no one expected this to happen.
Q What challenges have you faced as an international student in Australia?
Making friends in University and connecting with people. Most of the time people just exit the class as soon as its over. Another challenge is finding a job. A lot of the job applications are only available to permanent residents and citizens, and they sometimes highlight in bold.
I also struggled to find services and resources to help my time while I was in University. There are a lot of them available to locals and students, but I wasn’t aware for most of them.
Q: Why do you think it’s important to increase the awareness of the challenges that international students are facing?
I think It’s important to show the other side of International Student’s experience. we’re not just numbers in Australia’s export industry. We are people who try to live and enjoy their time here.
