THE Malaysian Games are here again! In its third year, the event promises to be the biggest of all with 10 sports being played. Leon Saw has the details.
In the coming months, there’ll be two contests of wills significant to Malaysians in Victoria, Australia.
One of them is the 13th Malaysian General Election expected to be held on or before June 17 2013. The other is the Malaysian Games 2013 on April 6 and 7 here in Melbourne.
In its third year, the Malaysian Games in Australia promises to be the biggest of all with 10 sports to be played. There’ll be badminton, basketball, futsal, netball, squash, table tennis, tennis, touch rugby, ultimate frisbee and volleyball.
All Malaysians whether you’re a student or not, are eligible to compete in the games. And if you intend to get involved, do register quickly as registration closes on March 29.
There are registration fees, which range from $15 for individuals to $150 for team sports of up to 10 players.
Winners however, won’t be taking home any prizes this year.
Games organiser and vice-chairperson of MSports, Malaysian Students’ Council of Australia, Victoria Elaine Koay says profits from the event will go towards “subsidising sports players representing Victoria in National Conference Games (NCG) instead”.
“But (we’l) definitely have medals,” she assured.
There’ll also be free flow of teh tarik on both days at all the sports venues so the Games may be worth checking out even if you’re just there to catch the action.
