New in Melbourne? Or a seasoned international student here already?
Either way, head on down to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl for the Asia Pop Fest on Friday, March 24. As part of the Asia Triennial Of Performing Arts (Asia TOPA) festival, Asia Pop Fest is packed full of music festivities, games, food and fun activities for everyone.
The Asia Pop Fest is a collaboration between Arts Centre Melbourne and City of Melbourne’s Lord Mayor Student Welcome, which welcomes all new students of Melbourne, international and local, and marks the start of the 2017 university year. This will be the biggest ever international student welcome in Australia, and it certainly seems like it from what they have in store.
The evening promises to be one of pure fun and a celebration of Asian pop culture. For K-Pop fans, you’re in luck, as Korean superstar Ailee headlines the event. Also part of the musical lineup is Singaporean heartthrob and singer-songwriter Nathan Hartono, who was the runner up in 2016’s Sing! China competition. There will also be a special guest appearance by Japanese virtual pop star IA, who rose to fame as an avatar from the voice synthesiser software Vocaloid.
Food trucks, K-Pop dance battles, gaming lounges, stalls from community organisations, fashion, interactive technology and a ton of free activities will keep you spoiled for choice when deciding what you want to indulge in at Asia Pop Fest as well!
The fun doesn’t stop at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl — after the event, there will be an official after-party hosted by TANG where Nathan Hartono will also make an appearance.
The best part? The event is FREE for all students! Simply present your student ID at the door to join in the fun! The scope and size of this event is the first of its kind in Australia, and it will definitely be a treat for both international students and everyone else in Melbourne.
