Clubbercise in Australia: A new way to work up a sweat

Want to hit the club but don’t want to overdo it on alcohol or grab that inevitable post-clubbing Maccas meal? Need to hit the gym but tired of the same routine of lifting things up and down?

Don’t worry, Clubbercise knows your dilemma really well.

As its name implies, Clubbercise is a combination of exercise and club-style dancing, lighting and music. Since 2013, the fitness phenomenon has been a hit in the UK where it was first conceptualised. With more than 100,000 regular participants, Clubbercise has also been introduced as an official class in Virgin Active clubs in Thailand and Singapore.

“We came up with the idea for Clubbercise when we realised we weren’t getting the opportunity to go out dancing as much as we liked to because of work and family commitments,” Clubbercise Founder Claire Burlison Green said in an official media release.

“It’s not just exercise, dancing also releases endorphins and I absolutely love hearing our Clubbers say it’s changed them, physically and mentally,” she continued.

To fully immerse yourself in the experience, Clubbercise participants are provided with reusable light sticks, UV face paint and alcohol-free juice shots. Online choreography, fitness schedules and music is also supplied for for those who want to take their clubbing experience home.

An average session can involve participants losing close to 600 calories! And if you’re not 100 per cent confident in your dance moves, all Clubbercise sessions take place in darkened rooms (lit by disco lighting).

It is an exercise that has changed the way people approach health and fitness.

“I had such an amazing workout and I felt so pumped, energised and sweaty,” Melissa Neow, Clubbercise trainee said in a press release.

“The best part is, it didn’t feel like its a workout at all – just dancing and fun. It was exhilarating like being at a rave,” she added.

And with Clubbercise making its way to Australia in 2018, you too can join in on the fun. Open to people of all ages, shapes and sizes, you can find a list of participating cities, course costs and more by clicking this link.
