GET ready for summer nights adorned with the brightest stars of Hollywood. The Moonlight Cinema is back for its 20th season with an outdoor cinema program ready to dazzle. Allan Tanoemarga reports.
Imagine lying down on a lush green field under the summer night sky, watching star-studded movies on a big silver screen with a cold drink or two on hand. Heavenly!
Returning for its 20th season, Moonlight Cinema offers just that for those in town this summer from December 2015 to March 2016. More than 15 advanced screenings will be featured on the program, along with plenty of other new releases and cult favourites for all ages.
Event’s highlights include Suffragette, a historical feminist drama about the voting rights of women in the UK, starring Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter and the award-winning Meryl Streep.
For fans of the Star Wars franchise, the highly anticipated sequel Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be another must-see from the scheduled program. Join your favourite characters from a galaxy far, far away along with the new heroes under the stars – just a month after its theatrical debut.
Still not impressed? Check out fan favourite Leonardo DiCaprio in his latest revenge thriller The Revenant – screened on January 6, 2016 – and judge for yourself whether his new film will finally win him an Oscar next year!
Last but not least, all-time ’80s classics such as Dirty Dancing, Top Gun and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off will also be on offer for those looking to reminisce the good old days. Those unfamiliar with these titles should also give it a go – they ain’t called ‘classics’ for nothing!
Accompanying all these amazing movie line-ups are scrumptious treats from the event’s LA-style food trucks. These eateries will be dishing out a menu that includes pork sliders, chilli cheese dogs and buffalo deep-fried chicken. A fully licensed bar and candy bar are also available on the ground to wash all the food down and serve those after a traditional cinema experience outdoors.
If you’re tight on budget, the good news is Moonlight Cinema is a BYO-friendly event, so you can pack your own food and drink (including alcohol!) and enjoy the night without spending too much.
Start planning your dates now by visiting the full program on Moonlight Cinema’s official website and book tickets at its official website.
Student tickets will cost you $16.50 (ensure you have a valid student concession card). Premium tickets, available at $35, will give you a reserved beanbag with exclusive viewing location and wait service.
The Melbourne event will be held from December 3, 2015 to March 27, 2016 at the Central Lawn of Royal Botanic Gardens. Directions on how to get there is available at the event’s official website.
