Van Gogh and the Seasons
Friday, April 28 – Sunday, July 9 (10.00am – 5.00pm) | NGV Southbank (180 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne)
This Friday night marks the start of the long-awaited Van Gogh and the Seasons exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria.
Unlike most previous exhibitions of Van Gogh’s work that mainly featured his most famous pieces, this collection gives a fresh look at the artist’s work by centring around a theme – seasons. The four seasons had a great influence on Van Gogh’s work. He saw meaning behind each spring orchard and each bleak winter twilight, and the circadian rhythm of the seasons as a metaphor for the circle of life.
Van Gogh and the Seasons will encourage visitors to see the world through Van Gogh’s eyes, a good way of putting aside his most blockbuster works and really contemplating how the genius that is Van Gogh saw the world.
